“These are common sense issues,” said Jonathan Zachreson, founder of Protect Kids California. “Unfortunately, California is controlled by an out-of-touch legislature that refuses to engage in protecting parents or kids.”

A recent poll on these three issues shows overwhelming support from California voters. Nearly 75 percent of voters support prohibiting puberty blockers or surgical procedures for children wishing to transition from one sex to the other. Sixty-four percent of voters support protecting girls’ sports and spaces from biological boys. Another 68 percent of California voters support requiring schools to notify parents if their child socially transitions in school settings.*

“Parent notification is required in all school settings and is supported by the Supreme Court,” said Erin Friday, a parent advocate. “In no other school settings are secrets kept from parents. Not bad grades, not disciplinary issues, nothing. Some will argue that this ‘outs’ the child in question. That’s utter nonsense, the child has already outed themselves by requesting that they go by another name. This is a simple notification  from the school to the parent that their child has requested to do so.”

Parent notification has become a hot button issue lately. Assemblyman Bill Essayli introduced AB 1314, which would have required parent notification on the same issue. The democratically controlled assembly refused to even give that bill a committee hearing.

It’s been more than 50 years since Title IX was adopted to create equal athletic opportunities for women. Unfortunately, women’s opportunities and safety are being undermined by allowing females to be displaced by males who identify as women. In doing so, they are sending a clear message that women simply do not matter.

“Women have fought for a level playing field for years,” said Sophia Lorey, a former college soccer player. “Tragically, many bureaucrats in government, medicine, education, and athletics act as if the subjective feelings of men and boys are more important than the objective safety of women and girls. This is not acceptable. We must protect our sisters and daughters in bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams. Silence is not an option.”

Thirty states around the country have put restrictions on “gender affirming” procedures, such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and genital altering surgical procedures. In Europe, medical professionals are beginning to question the health risks of administering transitional treatments on minors.

“This really should be about science and not politics,” said Zachreson. “While our government fails to catch up with the rest of the world on this issue, we can point to only one scientific study administered by Sweden that concludes that there is not enough scientific basis to continue to conduct treatments on children until there is more research.”

“Age age 12, my medical team diagnosed me as suffering from gender dysphoria,” said Chloe Cole, a 19 year-old who regrets transitioning at age 13. “I was told by my doctor that I needed to be put on puberty blockers right away. They gave my parents a false choice: ‘would you rather have a dead daughter or a living transgender son.’ I was fast tracked onto ‘gender affirming care.’ It’s a decision I regret greatly today. Kids need more time to work out their struggles during adolescence. There shouldn’t be any hurry to permanently change the life on any child.”
